Tripura Power Corporation Wins National ‘Award of Excellence 2026’ for Distribution Performance

Agartala: Tripura has earned national recognition in the power sector, with the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) receiving the prestigious ‘Award of Excellence 2026’ from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) under the Government of India for its significant contribution to electricity distribution. Among the states across the country, Tripura, Assam and Sikkim were selected for the honour, marking a notable achievement for the state's power sector.

The recognition assumes particular significance in view of the sustained efforts and guidance of Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath towards modernising electricity services, strengthening infrastructure and ensuring reliable power supply to consumers. The national award is also being seen as recognition of the state government's efforts to make the power sector more modern, technology-driven and consumer-oriented.

The award was presented during a two-day national workshop organised by the Central Electricity Authority in New Delhi on November 3 and 4. The workshop was titled ‘Review and Alignment of Reliability Data Between DISCOM and NFMS’ and was attended by representatives of power distribution companies from different states.

Representing TSECL, the award was received by Director (Technical) Dr Subir Sen, AGM (DP&C) Engineer Shishir Debbarma and DGM (DP&C) Engineer Jahar Debbarma.

The administrative initiatives of Power Department Secretary Abhishek Singh, IAS, along with the leadership and coordination of TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu, have also been cited as important factors behind the achievement. The collective efforts of officers, engineers and employees at various levels of the corporation contributed significantly to securing the national recognition.

According to the power supply performance data reviewed at the national level, Tripura has maintained an average daily electricity supply of 23 hours and 7 minutes in rural areas and 23 hours and 45 minutes in urban areas, out of 24 hours, excluding disruptions caused by natural disturbances. The state has also received appreciation for maintaining near-uninterrupted power supply during this year's Durga Puja celebrations.

The assessment and alignment of electricity supply reliability data between Distribution Companies (DISCOMs) and the National Feeder Monitoring System (NFMS) play a crucial role in evaluating the performance of the power distribution network. Such data coordination helps monitor the duration and frequency of power outages, assess the efficiency of distribution infrastructure and establish an accurate picture of electricity supply. It also ensures greater transparency and accuracy in reporting, ultimately helping improve services for consumers.

Following the national recognition, Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath extended his congratulations and appreciation to all officers, engineers and employees of the corporation. He acknowledged that their dedication, sense of responsibility, professionalism and sustained hard work had made the achievement possible. He also urged them to continue working with the same commitment to further improve electricity services across the state.

The award from the Central Electricity Authority is being viewed not merely as an institutional achievement but also as national recognition of Tripura's progress in power distribution efficiency, transparency and technological capabilities. The achievement is expected to encourage TSECL officials and employees to pursue further improvements in the state's electricity infrastructure and service delivery.
