Tripura High Court Directs DGP to Ensure Police Protection for Left Candidates to File Nominations by Friday

The Tripura High Court has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to ensure that Left Front candidates are able to file their nomination papers under police protection by Friday, following allegations that CPI(M) candidates were prevented from submitting their nominations in five subdivisions, including Mohanpur.

The directive was issued by Justice Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha while hearing a writ petition filed by the CPI(M), registered as W.P. (C) No. 812 of 2026. The court asked the DGP to make the necessary arrangements to ensure that the candidates can submit their nomination papers within the stipulated deadline. Police protection is to be provided wherever necessary to facilitate the process.

The Left party has been alleging that its candidates were unable to file nominations in Mohanpur and four other subdivisions due to a lack of security and obstruction. The party subsequently approached the High Court seeking intervention.

With the court issuing directions to the state police chief, attention is now focused on whether the affected candidates will be able to complete the nomination process within the deadline.
