Selfie on Moving Bike Ends in Crash; Three Injured in Jolaibari

Shantirbazar::A dangerous attempt to take a selfie while riding a moving motorcycle led to a serious accident near Sagar Dhepa Bridge in Jolaibari, injuring three people, including a 73-year-old pedestrian and a 20-year-old woman. The injured elderly man is undergoing treatment at Jolaibari Community Health Centre (CHC).

According to reports, the accident occurred when a motorcycle bearing registration number TR-01-BB-7567 was travelling from Udaipur towards Sachiram Bari's Dhananjay Park, carrying Mohottam Debnath and a young woman. Eyewitnesses alleged that although the motorcycle was moving at a relatively low speed, the rider and his companion were distracted by taking selfies.

The motorcycle allegedly rammed into 73-year-old pedestrian Subhash Chandra Dutta. Following the impact, the rider lost control of the vehicle, causing all three occupants involved in the incident to sustain injuries.

Among the injured, 20-year-old Tamanna Banik, daughter of Madhab Banik, suffered serious injuries after being thrown off the motorcycle. She sustained a deep forehead injury that required stitches. Two of her teeth were completely broken, while another became loose and was on the verge of falling out. The elderly pedestrian, Subhash Chandra Dutta, also sustained injuries.

Journalist Prasenjit Baidya, who was travelling from Sabroom towards Belonia, noticed the injured woman and immediately rushed her to Jolaibari Community Health Centre in his vehicle. The attending doctors provided initial treatment and dressing to the injured. However, considering Tamanna's dental injuries, she was advised to seek immediate treatment from a dental specialist.

Meanwhile, personnel from Jolaibari Police Outpost reached the accident site after receiving information about the incident.

The accident has sparked concern among local residents over the dangers of distracted riding. The incident once again highlights how taking selfies or using mobile phones while riding can lead to serious accidents and put the lives of both riders and pedestrians at risk.
