Agartala: Left Front candidates in Mohanpur, Jirania and Ranirbazar have alleged obstruction while attempting to file nominations for the upcoming municipal and urban local body elections. Unable to proceed with the filing process amid the reported tension, they approached the West Tripura District Magistrate on Monday.
According to the Left Front, its candidates were allegedly attacked by miscreants at Fatikchhara while on their way to submit nomination papers in Mohanpur. Around 10 to 12 people were reportedly injured in the incident, with two of them being brought to IGM Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, Left Front candidates in Jirania and Ranirbazar reportedly received information, before setting out to file their nominations, that miscreants had assembled along the roads to block their movement. In view of the situation, they decided not to proceed with the nomination process and instead approached the administration.
Left leaders Manik Dey and Shankar Prasad Datta, along with other party representatives, met West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Biswas Kumar on Monday and submitted their complaints. They alleged that a situation similar to the 2021 municipal elections was being created and that candidates were being prevented from exercising their democratic right to file nominations.
