Extortion Allegations at Bairagibazar; Motorists and Commuters Fear for Safety at Night
According to allegations, vehicles travelling along the Bishramganj–Melaghar road are being stopped around midnight, with drivers allegedly forced to pay money. There are also complaints that stones are thrown at vehicles whose drivers refuse to stop.

A group of youths has been accused of stopping vehicles and forcibly collecting money from drivers at Bairagibazar under the cover of darkness. According to allegations, vehicles travelling along the Bishramganj–Melaghar road are being stopped around midnight, with drivers allegedly forced to pay money. There are also complaints that stones are thrown at vehicles whose drivers refuse to stop.
The alleged incidents have heightened safety concerns among motorists and ordinary commuters using the road at night. Local residents claim that people travelling along the relatively deserted stretch, particularly during late hours, are being forced to travel in fear.
More seriously, allegations suggest that such activities are taking place even in the presence of police personnel. This has raised questions over why effective action is not being taken to prevent vehicles from being stopped and money allegedly extorted from drivers.
Residents and affected commuters have demanded stronger police surveillance along the Bishramganj–Melaghar road, particularly during night hours. They have also called for a proper investigation into the extortion allegations and appropriate action against those found responsible.
