Boxanagar: Police have made further progress in the investigation into the attack on BSF personnel and the alleged snatching of weapons at Ashabari in Boxanagar, Sepahijala district. Eight more accused were arrested by personnel of Kalamchoura Police Station on Thursday night. They were produced before the court on Friday, which remanded them to eight days of judicial custody.

Police had sought custody of the newly arrested accused for further interrogation. The matter was placed before the Sepahijala District and Sessions Court. Following the hearing, Judicial Magistrate First Class Sayantan Roy ordered that all eight accused be sent to judicial custody for eight days.

With these fresh arrests, the total number of people arrested in connection with the incident has reached 18. It may be recalled that 10 accused were arrested in the first phase and produced before the court on November 3, following which the court issued orders concerning their police remand and judicial custody. The remaining eight accused have now also been remanded to judicial custody for eight days.

Public Prosecutor Gautam Giri, representing the case, stated that the court's consideration of the police remand plea would facilitate further investigation and help establish the actual circumstances surrounding the incident. He expressed hope that the investigation would help bring out the facts and ensure that those involved are brought to justice through due legal process.
