Congress Promises Waiver of Water Tax, Reduction in Other Municipal Taxes if Elected: Birajit Sinha

Kailashahar:: Congress MLA Birajit Sinha has promised that residents of Kailashahar will no longer have to pay water tax if the party comes to power in the Kailashahar Municipal Council. He also assured that property tax and other municipal taxes would be reviewed and steps taken to reduce the financial burden on residents through consultations with the public. Sinha made these announcements while speaking to reporters on Friday after the filing of nomination papers.

The MLA said people in the Kailashahar Assembly constituency had shown confidence in the Congress in various Gram Panchayats, the Gournagar Panchayat Samiti and the recently concluded Village Committee elections. He expressed confidence that the party would receive similar support in the municipal elections. If entrusted with the responsibility of running the Municipal Council, Congress would implement several plans for the overall development of the town, he said.

Highlighting the need to address Kailashahar's long-standing drainage problems, Sinha promised the construction of large covered drains across the town. He also said special attention would be given to maintaining cleanliness and ensuring regular sanitation throughout the municipal area.

Criticising the BJP-led Municipal Council over its decisions to increase various taxes, Sinha said a Congress administration would reconsider the existing tax structure. Property tax and other municipal levies would be reviewed in consultation with residents, while the water tax would be completely waived, he promised. The MLA further alleged corruption, nepotism and public inconvenience under the BJP-led civic administration, stating that these issues would form a major part of the Congress campaign.
