Political activity is intensifying in Dharmanagar ahead of the upcoming municipal council elections. Alongside the ruling BJP, opposition parties CPI(M) and Congress are stepping up their campaigns to demonstrate their organisational strength. As the nomination process nears its conclusion, the Dharmanagar District Congress took to the streets on Saturday with an election rally involving its nominated candidates from all 25 wards.
The rally began at around 12 noon from the District Congress Bhavan and passed through several important roads of the town before returning to the party office. Through the procession, Congress leaders sought to take their campaign message to every ward and energise party workers and supporters ahead of the polls.
Those present included Dharmanagar District Congress president Nirupam Dey, former district president Digvijay Chakraborty, Pradesh Congress member Chayan Bhattacharya and Kebal Kanti Nandi, along with the party's nominated candidates from all 25 wards. Considerable enthusiasm was visible among Congress workers and supporters during the rally.
By bringing together its candidates from all 25 wards, the district Congress leadership sought to highlight its organisational presence and election preparedness ahead of the municipal polls. However, the extent to which the show of strength on the streets translates into electoral support will become clear only after the results are declared.
