Boxanagar: The recent attack on BSF personnel at Boxanagar was allegedly a planned conspiracy by drug dealers and smugglers in retaliation for sustained anti-drug operations conducted by the Sepahijala district police and the BSF, Tripura Police IG (Law and Order) Manchak Ippar alleged on Friday.
Speaking to reporters in Boxanagar, Ippar claimed that continuous operations against narcotics trafficking by the district police and the BSF had affected the interests of those involved in the illegal drug trade, prompting them to allegedly orchestrate the attack on BSF personnel.
Meanwhile, to maintain law and order and reassure residents about their safety, police and paramilitary personnel conducted a joint flag march in different parts of Boxanagar on Friday evening in the presence of the IG.
It may be recalled that an attack on BSF personnel and the subsequent snatching of weapons at Ashabari in Boxanagar had triggered tension in the area. Following the incident, security forces stepped up their presence to maintain normalcy and prevent any further disturbance.
The joint flag march was aimed at reinforcing public confidence and sending a clear message about the security arrangements in the area. Police and paramilitary personnel participated in the exercise under the supervision of IG Manchak Ippar.
The authorities reiterated their commitment to continuing the campaign against narcotics while maintaining law and order across the region.
