The BJP appears set for an unopposed victory in three of the 15 wards of the Teliamura Municipal Council, as political activity intensifies ahead of the civic elections. Despite the expiry of the nomination filing deadline, no candidate from any opposition party has filed nomination papers against the BJP nominees in these three wards. However, the final outcome will depend on the scrutiny of nominations and completion of the prescribed electoral process.
The three BJP candidates currently facing no opposition are Malashree Sahapal from Ward No. 4, former municipal councillor Rupak Sarkar from Ward No. 7, and Rabindra Sarkar from Ward No. 14. The nomination filing process concluded on Friday at the office of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Teliamura, where candidates submitted their papers to the Returning Officer. With no rival nominations filed in these wards, the three BJP candidates are currently without electoral challengers.
Ward No. 7 has drawn particular attention, as no opposition candidate ultimately entered the contest against BJP nominee and former municipal councillor Rupak Sarkar. His candidature has therefore remained unchallenged following the close of the nomination process. Political observers believe the absence of an opposition candidate in this ward could have significance for the overall electoral dynamics in Teliamura.
Meanwhile, the prospect of unopposed victories in the three wards has triggered a political exchange of allegations. Opposition parties have accused the ruling party of using intimidation and pressure to prevent their candidates from filing nominations. The BJP has categorically rejected the allegations, countering that the opposition failed to field candidates in these wards because it could not find suitable contenders.
